ABOUT ANTOAN

Antoan is a Kosovar artist and photographer based in Belgium whose work has always circled one central question: identity — who we are, who we are allowed to be, and who we become when we claim that right for ourselves. His practice centers LGBTQIA+ lives, feminist thought, and the politics of visibility.

His project ylberDylber — whose title weaves together the Kosovar words for "rainbow" and "beautiful man," the latter long weaponized as a slur — documents young queer people from Kosovo: the first generation to openly claim their identity in a place where doing so remains an act of courage.

In I CAN HEAR YOU BREATHE BUT NOT YOUR WHISPERS, he photographed queer Belgian youth between sixteen and twenty-two — young people who already know who they are, and carry that knowledge with a quiet certainty the world rarely pauses to recognize.

For PATRIARCHALIS, which led to a collective exhibition featuring, among others, Marina Abramović, he turned the camera on patriarchal structures within a couple who are none other than his own parents — a gesture as intimate as it is unflinching.

In 2004, he obtained a diploma in CG design.
In 2009, he earned a master's degree from the Fine Arts Academy in Visual and Spatial Arts.
