A QUIPROQUO
A quiproquo is a misunderstanding in which someone is taken for someone else, or something for something else.
It is striking to notice how people need to identify others in order to confirm their own existence, and how, by that same logic, they can erase someone simply by projecting a different identity onto them.
To test this, I started photographing myself every morning for 33 consecutive days. My contacts began assigning nicknames to each image, which was precisely my aim. It became a game: for each new picture, they searched for the most particular label, the one that would make the real person disappear behind it.
My face, from one day to the next, barely changed. I am almost the same in every image. The nicknames I was given are not, I think, entirely justified.
When the work was exhibited, visitors were invited to take a piece of me with them, one of my identities, on a business card.
